During the holidays I was finally able to edit some of that footage I shot earlier this year. We went on a road trip from Germany to Spain, where we mainly discovered the Andalusian region. This video is my love letter to the city of Seville. It is hands-down my favorite town in Europe. A combination of European and Arabic architecture, kind people, a big university, Flamenco dancers in the streets and an overall vibe of an appreciation of life. This video is just my humble attempt to showcase some of it. There is so much more to this place.
I wish all of you the best of health and success for 2018.
Over the last few months I was working as production manager of this year's "GQ - Men of the Year Awards". What a blast. A lot of work that truly paid off. Highlights of the evening included:
I have a small new project I am currently working on. Here are a few photos that were taken while filming.
This package contains 6 high quality cinematic LUTs (.cube- and .vlt-files).
They work with Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro X (LUT loader plugin needed for FCPX).
Download the LUTs here.
We had a total blast at the screening of our film There Was To Be Peace at the 2nd Inn Kurzfilmfestival Braunau in Austria. Thanks to festival founder Ngoma Mbodji Diawartoulah.
A quick update:
My short film There Was to be Peace has been selected to be included in an Austrian film festival.
It's the first time we are going to see it on the big screen. Wow! However, these sudden good news brought a lot of work for us. We want the film to look and sound as good as possible, so we had it color graded from scratch. My mate and audio engineer Sebastian Graefe created a 5.1-Dolby-track that blew me away. Follow him on Instagram here.
I also have to thank my Director of Photography Thomas Bader. It's only due to him that we are now in possession of a .dcp-file for our color corrected film. DCP stands for "Digital Cinema Package" and it collects digital cinema audio, image and data streams. It's basically what a cinema needs in order to be able to project your film.
Over the years I have shared a lot of before/after images of my color grading on Instagram and on my blog. My followers have asked me about my process and I was very happy to help them. Some suggested I should create LUTs for you, so you could boost your videos with just one click. Well, here you go. I'm starting with one LUT first and if it's popular, I'll be adding more in the future.
Below are previews (photo and video) and the link to where you can download the LUT.
The LUTs work with software such as Adobe's Premiere Pro and Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve.
For best results apply LUTs to videos shot with a flat picture profile.
Included is a .zip-file that contains:
While filming for a travel vlog in Granada, Spain I visited the grave of possibly the most precious Islamic scholar of the 20th century - Muhammad Asad.
First I didn't know what to do with the footage I filmed there, but now it has become this short feature.
Born as Leopold Weiss, Muhammad Asad was a Jewish-born Austro-Hungarian journalist, traveler, writer, linguist, thinker, political theorist and diplomat. Asad was one of the most influential European Muslims of the 20th century. I recommend reading his moving autobiography, 'The Road to Mecca', which (apart from the Qur'an) is possibly the most accessible book to Islam for non-Muslims. To me as a Muslim myself it answered many questions, some of which I didn't even know I had before reading this book.
as some of you might know from my Instagram feed, I'm currently in Andalusia, Spain. We are having a great time filming new episodes for our new travel vlog WE LOVE ROAMING.
On that note the first three episodes of our vlog's France segment have been released on YouTube. Every episode has been shot with both a DSLR camera (for vlogging) and a cinematic camera called URSA Mini 4.6K (for quality mood videos of the places we've been to). If you would like to see the mood videos in 4K, we have uploaded them separately. We just think it's a shame filming with a 4.6K camera and only have its footage availabe downsized and alongside the DSLR's FullHD footage.
A new episode will be posted on every Saturday. Feel free to subscribe if you don't want to miss any new videos.
A screenshot from the b-roll footage I shot for in France for the upcoming travel vlog called "We Love Roaming". The France segment will feature 7 episodes. Editing and color grading on episode 4 finished yesterday. 3 to go.
